Fizzbuzz, Inc. at Sugbo Entertainment Expo 2023
Cebu City was buzzing with creativity from October 20 to 21, 2023, as it played host to the Sugbo Entertainment Expo: Create Trip Summit held at Il Corso Lifemalls. Among the notable speakers at the event was Raquel “King” Montecillo Mascariñas, the President and Managing Director of Fizzbuzz, Inc., a local animation studio.
This summit held a pivotal role in the Cebu Business Months initiative, organized by the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), aiming to inspire and educate the emerging creative talents of Cebu.
Unlocking the Magic of Stop-Motion Animation
Raquel “King” Montecillo Mascariñas shared her expertise in the world of stop-motion animation, delving into the intricacies of creating captivating videos using this timeless technique, and emphasizing its enduring charm despite the considerable time investment. She elaborated on the three key phases of stop-motion animation:
Pre-production: This initial stage involves extensive research, brainstorming, scriptwriting, character and set design, storyboarding, animatic creation, prop fabrication, voice recording, and sound design. Pre-production consumes nearly 60 percent of the overall production time.

During her presentation, King also showcased an episode from the “Zingtanncia Legendz” series, one of the YouTube web series produced by the company for the StikBot Central YouTube channel.

Inspiring Cebu’s Creative Industry
At the event, Charles Kenneth Co, the CCCI representative, emphasized the significance of shaping Cebu’s creative industry and inspiring the next generation of artists and innovators. Lawrence Panganiban, the event’s Creative Entertainment Chairman, shared his vision of growing the entertainment industry in Cebu and motivating students to turn their creative passions into careers. Rene De Guzman, Vice President for Resource Development of Toon City, provided valuable insights into the creative industry’s potential and the path to success.
