Fizzbuzz Boos and Ghouls Halloween Party 2018

Ahh, don’t you just love Halloween? The festivity is practically make-believe for grown-ups. We finally have an acceptable excuse to dress ridiculously (ergo, go full-on geek mode) and not be met with weird stares or be dragged off to the loony bin. We also get to scare each other senseless and not be met with a stern memo from HR. And of course, any reason to bring a feast of foodings to the office is a welcome opportunity.

And so when the idea of hosting a Fizzbuzz Halloween Party was presented, we were all too happy to oblige. So much so that we came up with a 3-part event last October 31 at the Fizz HQ:

PART 1: POP CULTURE COSPLAY CONTEST

We are a (proudly) geeky group.

So a cosplay involving pop culture icons from film, music, and literature got us all excited. We did not even know where to start! The references were just too many. And we figured that turning this cosplay into a fashion show-cum-contest would significantly up the stakes.

We invited friends from the art and design community as judges to help us pick the cosplay winner. And just to add a little spice into the mix, each of the team had to sashay down the runway as the character they dressed up as. And while videotaped documentation of the runway walks is reserved for future blackmail purposes, we did have some studio stills, which are all awesome! Just see for yourself :

Can you guess who all these characters are supposed to be?

How about this group?

Cosplay Judges and our friends from the arts and design community (L-R): Joe, Bangbang, and Intoy

So much win for Valak!

PART 2: FRIGHT FEST: A Horror Short Film Movie Marathon

We don’t exactly know why we put ourselves through a world of terror by watching a handful of horror films in quick succession, but we did.

And while the films were eerie and just plain terrifying, there were some short bursts of unintended comedy from a bunch of startled screams.  We pity the eardrums of the person who had to sit beside the scaredy cats who screamed at every strange noise.

This may or may have been us during the horror movie marathon.

If you’re just as nuts as we are and would want to replicate the feat of watching 18 consecutive scary flicks in one sitting, please be our guest.  Here’s a list of the movies for your enjoyment:

Sit back and relax. But don’t turn off the lights!

PART 3: SHAKE, RATTLE and ROLL Game Night!

Whew, Part 2 was immensely intense. We needed to cleanse ourselves from all that tension so we decided to take it all out on some friendly competition with each other. How else? Through board games, of course!

While a bunch of the team went home a little early (ahem, oldies), there was a handful few who stayed and moved on to some tabletop gaming. We started out with a healthy team competition in Cranium, then moved along to some murder case-cracking challenge in CS Files, and finally a couple of rounds of the infamous game Avalon.

It’s just “friendly competition,” they said.

By the end of the night, we all fulfilled our cosplay wishes, scared ourselves senseless, and learned that regardless of how perfect the drawing of a corn and a cow during the Pictionary portion of a game can be, people will still answer “corn butt” or “corn steak” (instead of the actual word: corned beef.)

But most of all, at the end of this spooky shindig of sorts, we found ourselves having fun and creating memories in the company of bosses, teammates, and friends.

“They’re creepy and they’re kooky… Mysterious and spooky… They’re all together ooky… The Fizzbuzz family”

P.S. We have some friends who had a little Halloween get-together of their own too:

Happy Hello-ween from the Stikbot Monsters!
